Chocolate Pearls

With 65% of the world’s cocoa grown in the West African countries of Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon, there are many ships that leave the ports in this region bringing cocoa to chocolate makers around the world. Every year more than 2 million tons of cocoa are grown here almost all of this cocoa is exported in some form. Sometimes ships sink or cocoa falls off the fully loaded ships to the ocean floor below.

When this happens, the cocoa provides a unique environment for the sea life below. Did you know that the oysters in this region can produce chocolate pearls? Depending on the conditions they can be dark, light or marbled.

For the first time in Lititz, you can sample some tasty chocolate pearls,  imported especially for the Chocolate Walk.  A  limited number of chocolate pearls will be for sale with proceeds going to the Humane League of Lancaster County.
